Crafts that empower, uplift and inspire.
As Woza Moya sat down with Janet, the author of the captivating book “Pangolin Prophecy,” we couldn’t help but be drawn into her story. With a background in teaching young children, Janet’s passion for storytelling was evident from the start. Her training at the Johannesburg College of Education, where she was drawn to Infant Art, Literature, and English, laid the foundation for her future as a writer.
Janet’s journey to publishing her first book was not without its twists and turns. It took time and patience, but finally, she had the space to bring her vision to life. The spark that ignited her desire to write about pangolins came during a visit to a national park in the Waterberg region. Witnessing these gentle creatures in the wild, she was struck by their vulnerability to poaching. Determined to contribute to their protection, Janet reached out to organisations, and the resounding response was to raise awareness.
And so, “Pangolin Prophecy” was born. The story follows Baboloki, a young boy who forms a deep bond with the pangolins he cares for. As the tale unfolds, elements of magic and fantasy come into play, inviting readers to interpret the story in their own way. Janet’s intention is clear: to inspire a love for nature and encourage readers to become protectors of the world around them.
What drives Janet’s creativity is her concern about humanity’s growing disconnect from nature. She believes that stories have the power to bridge this gap and promote harmony between humans and the natural world. With “Pangolin Prophecy,” she aims to educate and inform readers about the importance of preserving our ecosystem.
As the conversation ended, janet’s parting words were a call to action: to spread awareness about pangolins and the challenge they face. She emphasised the vital role these creatures play in maintaining the balance of nature and the devastating consequences of their extinction. With her book, Janet hopes to inspire a new generation of nature lovers and protectors, ensuring that the pangolin’s story is not forgotten.
